Project 2: 'Me in Space'
The objective of this project is to explore about the connection between human body and designed space & form. In the first project, I need to explore my characteristic into an idea to design an accessory. In this second project, I need to work together with my teammate to investigate the characteristic of 'self' ( or 'multiple self') and create and idea to design an unique 'Furnitecture'.
In this following project, we are only able to use cardboards to build a furnitecture that can support a user( choosen within the group) to make sure the structure is applicable and doesn't break. Mechanic theories are applied into this project, together with design concept and idea.
Our design consists few elements of characteristic from our teammates, those are: introvert and relaxation. As mentioned in project 1, introvert is not usually socialized and relaxation is the way to release our pressure, to become chill. Combining these 2 elements and we get few ideas about the design that was the furnitecture consists 2 spaces, and the first space is for introvert, second space is for relaxing, but also represents the space that overcome the element of introvent, which had become non-introvert.

After making few of mock up models, we decided to use this structure, the structure consists a base and a cover, the base has 2 spaces which is the front and back, front is the sitting area and back is the laying area. The cover is used to represent both elements( introvert and relaxation) by flipping it to the another side. We also studied the mechanism of the strength of cardboards and cardboard rolls to make sure the structure will not collapse. The difficult part is to make the two standing pillars(for each sides of the base) contact with the base and will not collapse when someone is sitting on the base.

At the final submission of this project, the structure was completed as the diagrams below. The cover at the sitting area makes the sitting place become very narrow and uncomfortable, but it covers the place with privacy, which represents the space is the element of introvert but also because introvert the feeling is narrow, they do not talk with people or either sharing. By crawling toward the laying area is the process to change from introvert to not an introvert, the path is tough. The laying area is much bigger than the sitting area, when the cover is flipped to the laying area, it forms a shelter that protect and give vision to the space. Although it covers the space, it will not give the feeling that the space is not comfortable, the space is for relaxing, even take a nap. This represents the user overcome the introvert characteristic and become very relax and natural when communicate with people.
