2. Propose a potential solution that is within then means of student knowledge, capacity and capabilities. Prototype will be optional.

3. Using spatial design, students are to achieve the purpose in each category.

4. Student are required to conduct a satisfaction survey from the beneficiary for future or further improvement.

Introduction

In this module, we are given opportunities to improve the environment in our site, Sri Tioman 1, Gombak, Selangor.  The site is a residential area and managed by PPR(Projek Perumahan Rakyat) to improve and provide a better life to the residences.

In order to enhance the environment, we were investing the site with several issues. The main issue that we are concerning to is the hygiene problem. The public area were full of rubbish and people were littering all over the places. Additionally, this issue was not solved by the locals. Thus, we are looking to have a design that to bring this issue to the locals, to remind them the importance of environment caring.

Littering was found around the site that makes it untidy and creates hygiene problems.

Site respond and solution:

We found that most of the litter are recyclable resources. Therefore, we are decided to propose a design of recycle bins to reuse the usable resources and also to reduce the littering occurred in the site. The design of the bins is decided to construct with a basic structure with exterior finishes that we make it from recycled materials. This creates the sense that people will know the function of each bin just by looking at it.

Community issues:

The community were questioning that the bins will be expose to outdoor area which they might be damaged or weathered through nature or mankind issues. We are also concerning about these issue to make sure that the bins last long enough to serve the purposes. Some treatments we made to enhance the structure to strengthen its durability, eg. waterproofing the egg crates design since the egg crates will get wet in rainy day.

Reflection

Through this module, I have learned that architecture work might be helpful to several communities that emphasized the importance of architecture knowledge to our daily life. The structure and outlook design play an important role to initiate people with people. We are creating an interesting layout and structure to bring people to work together. It also brings an important lesson to the local community which they appreciate the commitment we made about the design that will bring people to work harder and smarter. Sometime people are just being passive, but architecture brings people to work active. They cooperate with each other through the architectural facts as a medium. The relationship between architecture and community is greatly shown in this project.

Although I contribute the work progress to the group is not much, but I appreciate to work with my group and I would like to thank to each of the group member that they did well job. I would like to also give a credit to everyone who is involving in this project that provide us a platform to understand more about the community and society, and also giving us the chance to bring a better life to the community.
