PROJECT 3

Retreat House - Weekend Getaway

Objective:

This project requires us to further explore the idea of the pavilion into a more complex program. We are required to understand the client’s needs and the spatial requirement (with maximum area 150 meter square ) of a special lodging and translate them onto architectural program that includes public and private spaces for relaxing, dining, cooking, washing and etc. Emphasis is given to the interpretation and synthesis of the user, site and function in architectural design.

In this project, we are required to design a retreat house that also needs to be placed on the site (previous project). We need to design with the relation of space, form and function in architecture concept. The retreat house is designed for specific user/client that was chosen from Project 2 - site analysis. Thus, my user is a family of 3 to 4. Site specific design is important as the retreat house is a weekend getaway, it is designed to have relax and get out from other businesses.

This is an individual project. My concept of this house is 'close to nature', with the design by centralize the prominent sign of nature - forest/tree around the building, giving the vision of nature within the house.

From this project, I had learnt to interpret and analyse simple site context and client’s character & needs in relation to the design of a small building. I also learned to design small and simple building that meets user requirements and the respective site context, equivalent and balance both the internal and external design values. Environmental influences affect most of the element and concept and result the combination of space, form and function in the architecture design.
